About Vendas Novas

Vendas Novas is a municipality in Portugal with a total area of593.47 km² and a population of 18,146 inhabitants. The municipality is composed of 19 civil parishes. The town of Vendas Novas has a population of 5,800 inhabitants. It is the seat of the municipality. The present Mayor is Antonio Rui Cunha, elected by the Socialist Party. The municipality is located in the District of Évora, in the sub-region of the Alentejo Litoral, with the seat in the city of Évora. It includes the freguesias of Aguiar da Beira, Alcáçovas e Vale de Cavalos, Ardila, Azedo, Bogas de Cima, Courel, Ferreira do Zêzere, Garrida, Gouveia, Luz, Mourão, Mourão e Campos, Olivares, São Pedro de Alvarenga, Serpa, Silveiras, Vendas Novas (São Lourenço e São Sebastião) e Vila Nova da Baronia. The economy of Vendas Novas is based on agriculture (cereals, olive trees), livestock (cattle, sheep), industry (textiles, food, wood) and tourism. The municipality includes the cities of Vendas Novas, which is the seat of the municipality, and Mourão.
